Toys, toys, toys...

I would think it's a safe bet to say that Charlie is teething... BIG TIME... he's going through the various chew toys like nobody's business. There are some that have lasted a day (at most) and others that lasted nearly two weeks... The Kong is still alive, and I'm putting a small amount of peanut butter in it and freezing for a few hours to help his gums... he loves the peanut butter and loves chewing on the cold Kong! He's been through two mini Orka Chew toys, the first lasted two weeks, the second one lasted 2 hours... he figured it out... he can UNTIE knots... he is an amazingly smart little beast if I may say so myself! Another favorite that can become a nightmare at night time, is the Kong tennis ball... it's small for him and has/had a great squeaky, (well one squeaky is dead, the other barely hanging on), the unfortunate attribute the ball has is that it easily rolls under the couch... then guess who fetches? Although he does try, ha ha...

Saturday... working in the yard!

Well, in an effort to move forward and keep everyone updated with the latest "Charlie-happenings" I'm going to skip forward to closer to present day... well, the weekend... Charlie likes to bring us things... creepy things... like banana tree leaves that have fallen on the ground and have gotten mushy, dark, wet... he shakes them and runs at you and drops it... bringing us a treat maybe? Ugh... the fear I feel from some of the things he brings, ha ha... well, lets say it fueled the fire to get things cleaned up in the yard, big time. It was a nice yard before, but it's cleaned out now! Of course he still finds things, rocks, spiders, etc, but there are a few less things for him to bring... As we cut back the trees that line the pool so that he'll have free rein behind we had a rather large pile stacked up... he was too eager to get inside the pile to see what he could find... He had the best time in the yard all day. He did really well, and was pooped by night fall... which was an added bonus! He loves the weekend when Fred's home with him!

Going to pick up Charlie I

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. My sister Bridget was visiting from Michigan, we had just completed an art workshop and were quite pooped. Fred, Bridget and I all got up early that Sunday, stopped at Panera for a quick bite and then we were on our way! We pulled into Charlie's house to see so many Jack Russell's it was truly amazing. (In the picture he's the one on the right!)Each one as cute or cuter than the next! We picked Charlie right out, we had been looking at his picture for what felt like so long, we immediately knew him. He was very timid at first but quickly warmed up. The car ride home had a few spit up stops, but he made it home and was so excited to check everything out. The amount of joy that one little bundle of fur can bring is amazing.

Finding the right Jack Russell

After months and months of looking online at both rescue sites and breeder sites, we came across this little guy and he captured our hearts. The rest is history... We got him from Jack Russell's of South Carolina, in Aiken, SC. Donna Newell was wonderful to deal with. This picture was the background on our computer for several weeks, until we went to pick him up!

Letting go and making the decision...

This is a picture of our JRT that has gone over the rainbow bridge... he passed away in 2007. When we finally decided that we wanted that constant love and companionship that a dog offers back into our life we both agreed that we didn't want one that looked like Reg. After 2.5 years of quiet (too quiet) we found Charlie. He lived in Aiken. There were many to choose from, but there was something about him that stood out. First of all, he looked nothing like Reginald (smooth coat)because he has a rough coat, which was a good thing! We didn't want a dog that we would constantly be comparing to Reg, we were lucky, Reg was the perfect dog. Never chewed a thing, and never had a problem in the house until he was so sick. He was the greatest companion.

A Little About Us

This is a blog about CHARLIE, a four month old Jack Russell Terrier. But first, a little about me:

My name is Barbara, my husband and I live in Charleston, SC. Shortly after we married in 1992, we bought a dog at a horse show. My husband (Fred) showed Arabian Horses, Western Pleasure. Cimmaron was a beautiful horse, and together they did quit well, they made it to the Top Ten in the Nationals! We saw this little puppy and asked if we could take it for a walk. The woman agreed, but told us we would never be able to bring him back... she was right! That was Reginald, we had him until 6/18/2007 when he was 14.5 years old his kidneys started to fail and he was miserable. It was sad around the house for 2.5 years, before we decided to get another JRT (that would be Charlie). Needless to say, after almost 17 years you truly forget how much energy puppies have!
