Life with Charlie, was a blog of the happy first year with a Jack Russell puppy named CHARLIE. Charlie has hit the one year mark today, so we're going to stop updating this website and include posts with Charlie on our daily blog at: ARTFOODHOME.COM (which as of a few years ago is now 4 days/week). We hope to see you there!

Almost there... it's been 3 weeks!
Great job Charlie! For three straight weeks he's made it outside each and every time, bless his heart! I could see the lightbulb go off in his head one day when he was outside, and I said the magic 'potty' word... he looked at me like 'THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED???!!!' not a problem since! That was three hard weeks that were worth every second!
Happy 5 month birthday charlie!!
Charlie is now 5 months old, WOOHOO! He loved his birthday present... a bed from LL Bean! He curls up and falls fast asleep! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLIE! Also a note... a sad farewell to Three Dog Bakery downtown... the store has closed... thankfully we made it there to stock up on some Harry Barker chew toys! We wish them luck in the future!

Charlie the toothless wonder!
Charlie has lost his four fang teeth within a few days... i've been reading different things to help them when they're really needing to teeth, he's been eating frozen green beans and frozen organic carrots. Seems to love them and really looks forward to them as a treat. Today... ice cubes... too funny! Need to go make some small ice cubes for later!

ADMIN NOTE: Anyone can comment now...
Bath day!
It was bath day! Throw the beast in the big ole sink, give him a bath with his Halo Cloud Nine shampoo and a fluff dry and he's set for a while! Weird to have a dog that is not shedding (at the moment at least)! He's sleeping behind me right now, exhausted after all the playing, chicken and cheese cookie eating... as always, life with Charlie (and with Fred!!!) is GOOD!
"Daddy's on his way home!"
What happens when you put a chair next to the window and then say 'DADDY'S ON HIS WAY HOME'??? You see the excitement of a puppy that is about to explode with happiness at seeing Fred come through the door after a very long day! We start our day at 4:45AM... Charlie can't be up too long at that hour, so he naps while I read the paper... Fred leaves by 5:15AM and over 12 hours later he is THRILLED that Fred's on his way! What better welcome can a guy get?!

KONG ROCKS!
It's hard to imagine the joy that a hunk of red rubber or a tennis ball with a loud squeak can bring to a puppy! The absolute favorite has to be the AIR KONG tennis balls... Give Charlie two and you have time to make dinner! He will play with them, roll them around chase one, then the other, roll them under things (couch, desk, ottoman) and crawl on his belly working hard to get it back only to do it over again... all the time wagging his tail like he's just found the best things since sliced bread!
I left the beast for an hour and a half today and he was an ANGEL (Charlie angel, ha)... saying a prayer before I left couldn't have hurt, ha ha... so we've had a big day... it's Spot's Stew time now... then another walk... ain't life grand??!

If it feels good, do it????
Well, as you can see, Charlie's motto is IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT! He's eating a tree... Let's see, today he's eaten a tree, a bee, some dirt, an indescribable bug, my slipper, his blanket, his Harry Barker chew toy (thank goodness for that thing!)... Who cares if you get a little dirt in your mouth, right? Chewing a tree simply feels good on the gums! Every day is a good day for Charlie!

Charlie LOVES Halo brand SPOT'S STEW!
Before we even brought Charlie home we did alot of research into what type food would be most beneficial for him. We wanted to avoid allergies, etc. and wanted something that was just pure goodness. One day, watching ELLEN while making dinner, I heard her say that she was part owner of a dog food company called HALO. She wanted to get the message out about how good it really was. We didn't have a dog at that time, but I kept that in the back of my mind in case we ever got another one. We tried it, slowly weaning him from the dog food he was eating, and he LOVED it... no coaxing, we but the dish down, he eats and we pick it back up. No leaving the bowl out all day in hopes he'll eat! We got him chicken flavor first, then salmon the next time, he loved both. They also have a great shampoo, not sudsy, doesn't contain any of the ingredients that cause irritation. It was a good quick bath, he felt good, we felt good, enough said! When Charlie's happy, we're happy... Hmmm, I think he's training us pretty well! Thanks Ellen, Charlie looks forward to each meal almost as much as I do! Check it out...

Thanksgiving Day!
Well Thanksgiving Day we were off to grandma and grandpa's house in Summerville. A little worried about Charlie getting car sick we were armed with newspapers, wet paper towels, garbage bags, etc. etc... but we made it with no problems... something to be thankful for most definitely!
Charlie had a great time exploring the yard, the house that is much bigger with much more stuff to check out, I think he was in heaven! He also met his cousin Bella. Bella is a sweet black dog... I need to find out what she is, not sure, but she's sweet as can be, and they had a big time sniffing each other out! I think we wore him out that day... which is a first!
